A dancer’s guide to nailing a Musical Theatre audition. This class is open for everyone who wants bring their singing performance to the next level. Auditions and performances can tough, this workshop will guide you through tips and techniques to bring out your best voice.
Jamie Read is a leading voice educator and has been teaching for over 20 years. He has conducted Post Graduate voice researcher into the training of Musical Theatre singers, and in 2020 he was invited to become a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA).
As well as being one of the Founding Directors of READ College he also runs The Voice Teacher Ltd, working with leading West End performers, TV celebrities and recording artists. He trained originally as a Musical Theatre performer at Sylvia Young Theatre School, then furthered his vocal training under Craig Barbour RSAMD (principal singing teacher at RADA), and has worked extensively as an actor, singer, dancer and choreographer.
As a further education teacher in voice, he has worked all over the UK including at The Henley College, Thames Valley University, Reading College of Arts & Design, and as a Guest Teacher for Liverpool Theatre School and College, Charlotte Shorthouse at Urdang Academy, Matthew Reeve at Mountview Academy, Anne Marie Speed & Associates at the Royal Academy of Music and as a guest specialist for Voice Workshop UK presenting teacher training for Belt technique. Jamie was an associate of Reeve & Møller Professional Voice Consultancy having trained on their Estill EMT Pathway, and undertook Post Graduate research into Vocal Pedagogy (specialising in Musical Theatre) through Voice Workshop UK & Cardiff Metropolitan University.
Theatre credits include Entertaining Strangers (National Theatre); Marvin’s Room (Hampstead Theatre and West End); Spirit of The Dance (USA and European tours); Hard Times The Musical (Original workshop, Windsor Theatre Royal, and West End); Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (UK national tour and West End); The Emperor & The Nightingale (MAC Birmingham); Femme Fatale (Warehouse Theatre Croydon); Salad Days (50th Anniversary UK tour); The Wizard of Oz (Birmingham Rep); The Great West Road (Watermill Theatre, Newbury). Film and TV includes Born and Bred (BBC); D-Day 6-6-44 (BBC/Dangerous Films) plus many commercials and several appearances on children’s TV for both the BBC and ITV. He has co-written two shows for the Edinburgh Festival – The Ballad of Reading Gaol and Miss Sign-On; The Untold Story of a Diva on the Dole, the cast recording of which is available from Dress Circle and also online to download. He also appears on several recordings including Hard Times The Musical; The Ballad of Reading Gaol; and A Tribute to Cameron Mackintosh, and to date has choreographed dozens of shows including 5 seasons for the Warehouse Theatre Croydon.
Jamie is still a regular guest tap dance teacher with ATD and Tap Attack, and has taught for several years at the UK Tap Festival. He is an assessor on the international Vocal Health First Aid Programme and has a special interest in vocal rehabilitation coaching.
